Did you know that there are 42 instances of the Hebrew word orphan --or fatherless--in the Bible? It's yathowm, which is pronounced yaw-thome'. God commanded His people to take care of yathowm. So don't feel like church isn't a place for a teen mom. Every child is very important to God, and teen moms are, too.

Teen Moms - Bible Studies and Encouragement for Teen Moms

Life After Birth

Fact: 1 out of 3 teen girls will get pregnant before the age of twenty.
Source: National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

If you're involved in ministry, you deal with pregnant teens. While you're happy that the young teen mom chose life and kept her child, you don't have any resources that help that young teen mom deal with her feelings and new responsibilities. So after a while, that teen mom stops going to your outreach program or church altogether at a time when she needs God the most. That is why TastyFaith is proud to introduce LIFE AFTER BIRTH-Bible Studies and Encouragement for the Young Teen Mom.
This Bible studies series can be used in many ways to reach the teen (or young) single mom. Here are a few:

  • You can use it one-on-one to create a relationship with a teen mom who might otherwise feel alienated from your program.
  • Use Life After Birth as a tool to create an outreach program for non-churched teen moms. For instance, you can start a support group for young teen moms (lead by an outreach volunteer) in your youth center.
  • Network with an area high school to help the real needs of teen moms. Too often, a teen mom drops out of high school because she does not have day care or someone to watch her child while she studies. So open your youth center or church one night a week as a study center? Be sure to offer a few hours of free child care for these teen moms. After they are done studying, end each night with lesson from Life After Birth.
  • Have an outreach at your church specifically for teen moms. Again, allow the young moms to bring their children. You might want to get a few extra hands to watch their children. That way, the unchurched teen mom will realize that God is there to help her as well as her child.
  • Buy two copies of Life After Birth, one for you and one for the teen Get familiar with the content. Plan a regular one-on-one with the teen mom and go over each chapter. Discuss the questions in each chapter. Let the teen mom in your youth program know that you care about her feelings as well as her future.

Life After Birth contains stories and insights from teen moms of all kinds of backgrounds: the church child gone wild, the girl from the suburbs, as well as innercity and urban teens who are repeating the single mom cycle. Each chapter will discuss a mom in the Bible, and relater her to timeless issues.

While Life After Birth is a must-have for urban ministry, it also has its place in suburban ministry as well. Teen pregnancy is not just happening in the innercity. Duh.
