Ginger in China

Dear Tasty Customers,

If you are wondering why there haven’t been any tasty newsletters in the mail box over the past year, it’s because the Top Cookie of TastyFaith is now Honorary Eggroll in China.

For the past ten months, I have been teaching junior high students at a faith based school in Kunming, China.

I never heard of Kunming, either.

This small Chinese city of about six million people is busting at its seams with new development and English language learners.

Caucasians are as rare to see as Bigfoot or a public payphone. Make that Bigfoot using a public payphone.

So in this corner of the world, get to feel what it’s like to be a minority. I’m stared at 24/7 like an albino pit bull at the zoo.  Curious locals following me around Wal-mart examining the strange items  in my shopping cart.

Peanut butter and cheese.

I also get to experience what it’s like to be illiterate. In China, I am illiterate. Everything is written in those Chinese characters,, including signs in the public toilets warning you there’s a fine for doing number two.

Most importantly, I get to experience what God’s doing in Asia.

Don’t worry.  He has a valid passport and is doing amazing things.

Believe me, there are as many needs in faith based schools in China as there are in a crack house in Chicago. An absentee father causes pain regardless if he’s in prison, doing global business or doing missionary work in small villages.

While I don’t work with Chinese students directly, TastyFaith materials are getting into their hands, helping teach English while teaching the stuff with that really matters. These special students are enjoying shortie pages.
